Château Climens

Château Climens produces wines from Barsac, the easternmost enclave of Sauternes in Bordeaux. The appellation's terroir—marked by morning mists and afternoon sun—creates ideal conditions for noble rot, the fungal process that concentrates sugars in white grapes. The estate's flagship, Le Pont d'Arcole du Barsac, blends Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc into a wine of remarkable depth. Cyprès de Climens Barsac and Lilium Blanc, both built on the same grape varieties, demonstrate the range possible within this singular style. Sémillon provides the honeyed, waxy foundation; Sauvignon Blanc contributes structure and citrus counterpoint. These wines have been assessed by Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Falstaff, Decanter, and Wine Advocate. Barsac's cooler microclimate and clay-limestone soils distinguish it from the broader Sauternes region, yielding wines of particular elegance and freshness.
