Gregor Schup
Gregor Schup works in the Thermenregion, a distinctive corner of Lower Austria known for its mineral-rich volcanic soils and warm microclimate. The winery focuses on two indigenous white varieties—Zierfandler and Rotgipfler—grapes that thrive in this specific terroir and rarely appear elsewhere with such intensity. The flagship Zierfandler Trockenbeerenauslese demonstrates the grape's capacity for concentration and complexity in botrytized form, while the Rotgipfler Trockenbeerenauslese shows similar ambition in a sweeter register. A dry Zierfandler ABR rounds out the portfolio, offering a different expression of the variety. Falstaff has rated these wines, recognizing their technical depth. The winery's commitment to these regional varieties—rather than international standards—positions it within a small circle of producers devoted to preserving and elevating Austria's most localized grapes.
